The American Striper association tour passed through Stratford last weekend  holding their third event of the season at Boardwalk Marina. This is the Second year that Boardwalk Marina has sponsored and ASA event and Scott Mitchell who is one of the Owners of Boardwalk was happy to mention that they will also be sponsoring another ASA event later this year in October.

Anglers from up and down the eastern sea board searched Long Island Sound's water for the biggest Striper they could find and the Bass did not disappoint.  Team Michael's Bait and Tackle who's home port is Staten Island NY. took home first place and over $3000 in prize money. Their crew, who was captained by Bryan Pieros, weighed in a 45.95 pound Striped bass which was caught at Valiant Rock in the Eastern portion of  the Sound. The fish was landed at about 3:15 pm giving the captain just enough time to make it back to Stratford for the 5pm weigh in. The team was awarded an extra pound bonus for releasing the Bass alive after weigh in.  Team Marlin Maniac out of Whitestone Virginia captained by David nova took 2nd with a 39.65 pound Striper caught in the race.  Team Marlin Maniac also received a bonus pound for releasing their fish alive and by doing so edged out Team Lorie Marie captained by Keith Salisbury who brought a 40.20 pound linesider to the scale.  The ASA tour will now head to Cape Cod for the fourth stop on their tour and angers interested in participating should visit fishasa.com for more information.

Locally Striped bass fishing remains good with plenty of 10-30 pound fish being caught at all the usual haunts.  John Valentino of Stratford weighed landed several keeper bass this weekend while fishing the humps in Bridgeport.  Jim Sinclair of Oxford had Bass up to 28 pounds at Middleground and both Danny Bobbie of Oxford and Brian Fette of Seymour landed their first keeper Stripers of the Season along with several Bluefish and Dogfish.  Jim Micinilio of Stratford fished the Black Rock harbor area with his brother Greg and good friend Condor Shen and landed 52 Stripers and 24 Bluefish.  7 of the Stripers were keepers up to 30 inches.  Barry Mucci of Shelton fished solo on Saturday but landed Several Blues, one keeper Striper and a potential world record Sea Robin which he is having mounted.

Fluke season opened on the 15th of June but no reports of Flounder being caught on this side of the pond as of yet.

Saltwater Anglers are reminded that Connecticut now requires a Saltwater license as of the 15th. for more information on the rules and regulations anglers should visit the States Department of Environmental Protection Website.
